Uses. Shells can be worked by a dwarf with the bone carver skill. They can be used for many of the same purposes as bone, such as in making crafts, decorations, and cheap, lightweight, low-defense armor ( leggings, greaves, gauntlets, and helms only). At the start of my new fortress some dwarves got injured in a cave-in and I assigned them quickly to beds and a hospital zone in the middle of a hallway. I eventually built an actual hospital with the necessary tools near them, but I can't make my dwarves move them at all.
