Hello, this is my JM stamped Glenfield 30A which is basically a Marlin 336 but with a cheaper stock and its in great condition. By my research it was made in 1973 based on the serial number. There is still plenty of rifling left so it hasn't been used that much. They still made the guns, but now called the Marlins. So a "Marlin 30A" is just a newer "Glenfield 30A", which is the no-frills version of a Marlin 336. Same guns, same internals, just not as pretty., Re: Marlin 30AS vs 336. Receiver & screw holes are the same so yes you can use 336 rail... The differences are mostly cosmetic: furniture (stock) and lack of a barrel-band (30AS has a front-end cap like some other Marlin models)... (See pic for barrel-band vs end-caps styles...)
